Jill Scott Hits No. 1
Jill Scott's 'Pressha' has claimed the No. 1 spot at R&B radio, continuing its upward trajectory from her sixth studio album *To Whom This May Concern*. The empowering track signals a triumphant return for the acclaimed vocalist, with her ability to blend soulful melodies with liberating themes resonating strongly with audiences.
*To Whom This May Concern* is Jill Scott's first full-length album in over a decade, following 2015's *Woman*. The 19-track project is described as an "offering to all" and features collaborations with artists like JID, Tierra Whack, and Too $hort. The album sees Scott working with a team of notable producers, including longtime collaborator Adam Blackstone, as well as DJ Premier, Om'Mas Keith, and Camper. Scott herself is also credited as a co-producer on "Pressha". In "Pressha," Scott delves into the societal pressure to conform to certain beauty and status standards. She explains that the song is partly based on her own life experiences and observations of people choosing "an aesthetic over character or consistency." The track was co-written by Scott, Adam Blackstone, and Vincent "VT" Tolan. Blackstone, a multi-instrumentalist who has served as musical director for Nicki Minaj and Justin Timberlake, has worked with Scott since her 2007 album *The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3*. Prior to "Pressha," the single "So in Love" featuring Anthony Hamilton from her 2011 album *The Light of the Sun* spent 14 weeks at No. 1 on the Urban Adult Contemporary Chart. Her previous album, *Woman*, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The music video for "Pressha" features appearances from actors Tyler Lepley, Tasha Smith, and Niecy Nash-Betts. The visual explores the theme of being desired in private but not publicly acknowledged. Scott spent the years between albums appearing on tracks by artists such as Alicia Keys and Kehlani, and touring to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her debut album, *Who Is Jill Scott?: Words and Sounds Vol. 1*. In a 2025 social media video, she explained her hiatus, stating, "I wait to be inspired."
