Anthropic is changing how Claude agents are billed, separating automated usage from the subscription limits that cover chat and interactive coding. The company said in a support article updated this week that, starting June 15, 2026, Claude Agent SDK usage and the `claude -p` command will no longer count against a customer’s regular Claude plan limits. Instead, eligible paid users will get a separate monthly Agent SDK credit, and any usage beyond that credit can flow to extra usage at standard API rates if the customer has enabled it. That change redraws the line between interactive Claude use and programmatic Claude use. Anthropic said subscription limits will remain reserved for interactive use of Claude Code, Claude Cowork and Claude itself, while the new credit applies to Agent SDK workloads, GitHub Actions and third-party apps that authenticate through the Agent SDK. The company’s help center lists the credits as $20 for Pro, $100 for Max 5x, $200 for Max 20x, $20 for Team standard seats, $100 for Team premium seats, $20 for usage-based Enterprise, and $200 for seat-based Enterprise premium seats. Anthropic said the credit covers Claude Agent SDK usage in a customer’s own Python or TypeScript projects, the non-interactive `claude -p` command in Claude Code, the Claude Code GitHub Actions integration, and third-party apps built on the Agent SDK that authenticate with a Claude subscription. InfoWorld reported that the programmatic bucket also affects developers using external frameworks such as OpenClaw and automated workflows such as scripts, CI pipelines and other long-running agent tasks that previously drew from the same subscription pool as chat. ### How does the billing work once the credit is used up? (support.claude.com) Anthropic said the credit is per-user, not pooled across a team, refreshes each billing cycle, and does not roll over. Customers must opt in once through their Claude account, after which the credit refreshes automatically each cycle, according to the support page. When that credit runs out, additional usage moves to extra usage at standard API rates only if extra usage has been enabled; otherwise, Agent SDK requests stop until the next refresh. ### Why are developers paying attention to this change? (support.claude.com) InfoWorld reported that Anthropic had earlier cut off subscription coverage for some third-party tools, citing compute constraints, and that the new policy partly restores access while putting it on a separate meter. The publication said the earlier setup had made Claude subscriptions attractive for developers running autonomous agents because programmatic workloads and interactive use were effectively bundled together.
