Gnarls Barkley Final Album Drops
Gnarls Barkley just released their third and final album "Atlanta" — marking the end for the Grammy-winning duo of CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse. The project is being hailed as a fitting sendoff to their genre-defying career that helped define 2000s hip-hop, R&B, and soul. This caps off their run from "Crazy" through their innovative blend of styles.
The 18-year gap between Gnarls Barkley's second album, "The Odd Couple," and their new release "Atlanta" was marked by significant solo success for both members. During the hiatus, CeeLo Green released four solo albums, served as a judge on "The Voice," and also put out two albums with his original group, Goodie Mob. Producer Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) became a highly sought-after name in the industry, winning six Grammy Awards for his work with a diverse range of artists. His production credits include acclaimed albums for The Black Keys, Gorillaz, Beck, Adele, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. He also formed the band Broken Bells with James Mercer of The Shins, releasing three albums with that project. The duo's debut album, "St. Elsewhere" (2006), was a massive critical and commercial success, largely driven by the global phenomenon of their single "Crazy." The song was the first to top the UK charts based on download sales alone, where it remained number one for nine weeks. The album itself earned a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. Their second album, "The Odd Couple" (2008), while still stylistically similar to their debut, did not achieve the same level of commercial success, peaking at number 12 on the Billboard 200. Following this release, the duo focused on their individual projects, leading to the lengthy pause on new Gnarls Barkley music. Plans for a reunion were teased by CeeLo Green as early as 2013, but faced delays. In 2014, Green pleaded no contest to a felony charge of furnishing a controlled substance, resulting in three years of probation and community service. The duo eventually reconnected in 2025 to begin work on their final chapter. The lead single from the new album, "Pictures," was reportedly inspired by CeeLo Green's childhood experiences riding Atlanta's public train system, MARTA. Green described the song and the album as a "full circle moment" and a return to the spirit of self-discovery that has always defined Gnarls Barkley.
