Young Sherlock Debuts on Prime

Guy Ritchie's *Young Sherlock* series debuts on Prime Video this week, starring Hero Fiennes Tiffin as a rebellious 19-year-old Holmes. Early reviews praise the show's energy and fresh take on the iconic detective, with notable performances from Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone, and Colin Firth. The series reimagines Holmes as a dynamic teenager rather than the traditional older sleuth.

The series is based on Andrew Lane's "Young Sherlock Holmes," a series of young adult novels authorized by the estate of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The first book in the eight-novel series, "Death Cloud," was published in 2010 and introduces a 14-year-old Holmes in the summer of 1868. This project marks director Guy Ritchie's return to the world of Sherlock Holmes, though it is separate from his film franchise starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Ritchie directed the first two episodes of the eight-part series and serves as an executive producer. His previous films, *Sherlock Holmes* (2009) and *A Game of Shadows* (2011), were major box office successes. The show features a notable family connection in its casting, with star Hero Fiennes Tiffin acting opposite his real-life uncle, Joseph Fiennes, who plays Sherlock's father. This is the second time Fiennes Tiffin has followed in a famous uncle's footsteps; he previously played the young version of Lord Voldemort in *Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince*, a character made famous by his other uncle, Ralph Fiennes. Production for *Young Sherlock* was a massive undertaking based primarily at Great Point Seren Studios in Cardiff, Wales, hiring over 340 local crew members. The city of Bristol's historic streets were extensively used to double as 19th-century Oxford, with filming taking place over five months and involving upwards of 110 cast and crew on location sets per day.
