BINI makes Coachella history

Filipino girl group BINI became the first Filipino act to perform at Coachella, a milestone that was visible in fan clips and festival coverage and underscores Coachella’s international pull ( ). Their set — posted as an official live upload — is already circulating as a signature example of how non‑US pop acts now shape festival moments and fashion influence globally (youtube.com).

A girl group from Manila walked onto Coachella’s Mojave stage at 4:15 p.m. in Indio on April 10 and became the first Filipino act to perform at the festival. BINI’s Weekend 1 set ran about 45 minutes and opened with “Shagidi.” (forbes.com) The group did not arrive as a new project built for California. BINI is an eight-member Filipino pop group made up of Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena, and the group debuted in 2021 after training through ABS-CBN’s Star Hunt Academy. (bini.abs-cbn.com) By the time Coachella booked them, BINI already had a domestic hit base big enough to travel. Their official site says “Salamin, Salamin” and “Pantropiko” held the top two Filipino chart spots at the same time, and the group had passed 30 million in streaming listenership. (bini.abs-cbn.com) Coachella put them on Mojave, which is not a side tent people ignore while walking to the food line. ABS-CBN described Mojave as the festival’s second-largest tent and a stage that has hosted artists including Ed Sheeran, Lizzo, and Carly Rae Jepsen. (abs-cbn.com) The set was built to introduce them fast. Forbes reported that BINI opened in gold looks with salakot-inspired headpieces, then switched into brighter festival outfits while mixing recent English-language tracks with Filipino hits from 2023 through 2026. (forbes.com) They also used the stage like a national introduction, not just a concert stop. ABS-CBN reported that Aiah told the crowd they were there “to represent the Philippines on a global stage,” and fans in the audience waved Filipino flags and BINI light sticks during the introductions. (abs-cbn.com) The song choices explain why clips spread so quickly after the set. Forbes said the performance included “Pantropiko,” whose official performance video has 119 million YouTube views, and “Salamin, Salamin,” which has passed 201 million Spotify streams. (forbes.com) BINI also used Coachella to launch new material instead of treating the festival like a greatest-hits medley. Forbes reported that the group performed “Blush” for the first time as part of the new extended play “Signals,” which was released one day before the Coachella debut. (forbes.com) The audience for this was not limited to the people inside the tent. Coachella streamed the festival live on YouTube, and BINI’s official YouTube page now carries the full Coachella set as an official upload tied to the Mojave performance. (youtube.com 1) (youtube.com 2) That is why this landed as more than a single booking credit. A group formed in Philippine television training rooms in 2019 used one of the biggest American festival livestreams in 2026 to turn songs like “Pantropiko,” “Karera,” and “Salamin, Salamin” into a global first look for millions of viewers who had never seen BINI before.
