Four Major London Festivals Confirmed

Four high-profile music festivals in London's Brockwell Park have been officially confirmed for 2026, bringing relief after years of pandemic-related disruptions. Brockwell Park typically hosts events like Wide Awake, Cross the Tracks, City Splash, and Project 6, catering to electronic, dance, jazz, soul, and reggae audiences.

- The 2026 approval follows a 2025 High Court ruling that sided with the campaign group Protect Brockwell Park, which argued that the number of event days exceeded the 28-day limit allowed without formal planning permission. This forced the festival organizer, Brockwell Live, to submit its first-ever full planning application to Lambeth Council. - The series of festivals is expected to contribute over £10 million to the local economy. In 2023, events in Brockwell Park generated more than £500,000 in revenue for Lambeth Council. - The planning application revealed a divide in the local community, drawing 395 objections and 127 statements of support. Opposition groups, including Friends of Brockwell Park, cited concerns over noise, damage to the park's ecology, and restricted public access. - Under the new agreement, the festivals will occupy 26% of the park for a maximum of 32 days between May 9 and June 9, 2026, a period that includes setup, festival days, and de-rigging. - While the four festivals are confirmed, another popular event, the alternative and indie music festival Wide Awake, announced it is "taking a break" in 2026. The free, council-run Lambeth Country Show has also been cancelled for the year. - Project 6, one of the confirmed festivals, is a collaboration with and a celebration of 30 years of Rinse FM, a station that originated as a pirate radio station in 1994 and became a significant force in underground music genres like grime and dubstep. - The event director for the festival series, run by the company Summer Events, noted that in previous years approximately 20,000 attendees were residents of the borough of Lambeth. - City Splash was co-founded by Ben Ryan to create a large-scale festival platform for Caribbean and African music in London, inspired by the spirit of the Notting Hill Carnival.
