Claude inside Microsoft Word

Anthropic rolled out a beta add-in that embeds Claude into Microsoft Word for Teams and Enterprise, letting users query, edit and generate document text inside Word. (techradar.com) The company says legal contract review is a leading use case and that enterprise now represents roughly 80% of its revenue, with over 1,000 businesses spending more than $1M annually. Anthropic has put Claude directly inside Microsoft Word, adding a beta sidebar for Teams and Enterprise customers who draft and revise documents all day. (marketplace.microsoft.com) The add-in lets users ask questions about a document, rewrite sections, work through comment threads, and edit clauses without leaving Word, according to Anthropic’s Microsoft marketplace listing. Anthropic’s product pages now list Claude for Word alongside Claude for Excel and Claude for PowerPoint. (marketplace.microsoft.com) (anthropic.com) Anthropic says the Word tool is in beta for Microsoft Teams and Enterprise users, and outside reports say it went live on April 11, 2026. The company’s first named use case is legal contract review, where lawyers often need to compare, rewrite, and approve tracked edits inside the same file. (thenextweb.com) (artificiallawyer.com) Word is where much of that work already happens: contracts, policy drafts, board materials, and procurement documents are usually negotiated in Microsoft files with comments and redlines. Anthropic’s pitch is that Claude can now stay inside that workflow instead of forcing users to copy text into a separate chat window. (marketplace.microsoft.com) (eweek.com) The launch also pushes Anthropic deeper into Microsoft’s software stack at a moment when the two companies are already expanding ties. In November 2025, Anthropic said Claude models were becoming available in Microsoft Foundry and Microsoft 365 Copilot through a broader partnership with Microsoft. (anthropic.com 1) (anthropic.com 2) Anthropic has been building this office-software lane for months. Its site now lists Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Slack, Chrome, and Claude Code for Enterprise as separate products aimed at workplace use. (anthropic.com 1) (anthropic.com 2) The business mix has shifted with that push. PYMNTS reported on April 12 that enterprise now makes up about 80% of Anthropic’s revenue and that more than 1,000 businesses are spending over $1 million a year on its tools. (pymnts.com) Anthropic’s own funding announcement in February pointed in the same direction, saying customers spending more than $100,000 annually had grown sevenfold in a year and that companies were expanding from one Claude use case to others across their organizations. The Word add-in gives Anthropic one more way to turn that expansion into everyday seat-by-seat software usage. (anthropic.com)
