Sarah J. Maas ACOTAR Dates

Bestselling fantasy author Sarah J. Maas has revealed release dates for books 6 and 7 in the "A Court of Thorns and Roses" series. However, the highly anticipated ACOTAR TV show and film adaptations are on hold — Maas cited concerns about losing creative control as the key reason for pausing the screen adaptations.

The upcoming sixth and seventh installments of the "A Court of Thorns and Roses" series are slated for release on October 27, 2026, and January 12, 2027, respectively. Author Sarah J. Maas revealed that the story for the sixth book grew so large it had to be split into four parts; book 6 will contain the first part, and book 7 will feature parts two and three. The rapid back-to-back release is a result of this story expansion, with the first part alone running around 400 pages. While no titles have been announced, fan speculation points to the sixth book focusing on Feyre's sister, Elain Archeron, and her complex love triangle. Maas has also hinted at a potential redemption arc for the character Tamlin. The journey to adapt ACOTAR for the screen began in March 2021, with Hulu planning a series helmed by "Outlander" showrunner Ronald D. Moore. Maas was slated to co-write the pilot. However, the project languished in development before being officially dropped by the streamer in February 2025. Development hurdles included the 2023 Hollywood writers' and actors' strikes, followed by Moore's departure from the project in July 2024 after he moved from Disney back to Sony. Following these setbacks, Maas confirmed she has reclaimed the adaptation rights for her works. She has stated a desire to be in charge of any future adaptation to ensure it aligns with her vision and fan expectations. The ACOTAR series, first published in 2015, has sold over 13 million copies and experienced a massive resurgence in popularity through TikTok's "BookTok" community. This success has significantly boosted sales for its publisher, Bloomsbury, which reported its highest-ever revenue and profit from 2023 to 2024, largely crediting Maas's booming sales. To date, Maas has sold more than 75 million copies of her books worldwide.
