Renault's India export push
Renault unveiled an India plan that emphasises exports of components, software and engineering from India rather than only finished vehicles. The company plans seven new cars by 2030, two new platforms and a target of €2 billion in annual exports from India by 2030. (rediff.com ) (autocarindia.com)
Renault is recasting India as an export base for parts, software and engineering work, not just a market for selling cars. (renaultgroup.com) The French carmaker said on April 16 that it wants €2 billion in annual exports from India by 2030 and a seven-model India lineup by the end of the decade. François Provost, Renault Group’s chief executive, presented the plan during a week-long visit to India. (renaultgroup.com) (autocarindia.com) Renault said the export mix will include vehicles, components, research and development, and engineering services. Provost told Autocar India the €2 billion target does not include vehicle exports to Europe. (autocarindia.com) The shift puts India deeper into Renault’s global supply chain at a time when the company is trying to grow outside Europe through lower-cost engineering and manufacturing bases. Renault said India accounts for more than one-third of the growth potential across the markets where the Renault brand already operates. (renaultgroup.com) Renault is also trying to rebuild its position in India’s passenger-vehicle market after years with a thin lineup centered on the Kwid, Triber and Kiger. Rediff reported the company is targeting a 5% market share in India by 2030 and wants the country to rank among Renault’s top three markets globally. (rediff.com) (renaultgroup.com) The product plan rests on two platforms and a wider spread of powertrains. Renault said the seven models due by 2030 will cover compact cars to larger sport utility vehicles, with options ranging from internal-combustion engines and compressed natural gas to hybrids and fully electric vehicles. (autocarindia.com) (renaultgroup.com) Autocar India reported that the upcoming Bridger sport utility vehicle will be the first Renault model designed, built and exported globally from India under this plan. The same report said Renault is targeting localization of as much as 90% to lower costs and reduce supply-chain risk. (autocarindia.com) The Chennai factory is central to that strategy. Renault said the plant, first incorporated in 2008, has produced more than 2.8 million vehicles and more than 4.6 million powertrain units, while company materials put annual vehicle capacity at 480,000 units. (renaultgroup.com) (cdn.group.renault.com) Renault has already tightened its grip on that base. The company completed its buyout of Nissan’s stake in the Chennai manufacturing joint venture in 2025, giving Renault full control of a plant it is now using as the backbone for its India sales and export push. (auto.economictimes.indiatimes.com) (renaultgroup.com) For Renault, the bet is that India can do two jobs at once by 2030: supply more cars at home and sell more high-value work abroad from the same base.
