Fremont High Swimmers Eye State Title
Fremont High School's boys swimming team had a strong showing on the first day of the state tournament. The performance has positioned the team as a serious contender for state titles as the competition continues.
Fremont's title hopes are buoyed by a roster that includes top-seeded swimmers in multiple events. Junior Elliot Vech entered the state championship as the swimmer to beat in both the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events. Senior Jacob Hanson came into the meet holding the top seed in the 50-yard freestyle. The Tigers' strength isn't limited to individual races. Their 200-yard medley relay team came into the state meet with the second-fastest time, just over a second behind the top-seeded Lincoln East. This balanced attack across both individual and team events is crucial for accumulating the points necessary for a state title. The team's current success builds on a historic performance at the Heartland Athletic Conference (HAC) championships on February 15, 2026. At that meet, both Vech and Hanson secured individual titles, a first for the Fremont boys' swim program in the nearly 30-year history of the conference championship. Fremont is vying for its first-ever state swimming and diving team championship. A victory would mark a significant milestone for the program, which finished fifth in the 2025 state championships. The finals for the 2026 NSAA Swimming Championships will take place on Saturday, February 28th, at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln.
