Snowbasin, one of the oldest continuously operating ski areas in the U.S., was established in 1940. The Wasatch Ski Club initially opened it before Earl Holding purchased it in 1956 and transformed it into a premier resort. The Handle Tow Showdown, presented by Coca-Cola, is scheduled for March 14th and invites skiers and riders to showcase their skills alongside professionals. The main showdown is for those 16 and older, but there is also an Am Jam competition. Online registration is $25 and includes a lower mountain lift ticket. Snowbasin is preparing to host the Alpine Skiing events for the 2034 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. As a result, Snowbasin is implementing infrastructure upgrades, including replacing the Becker Chairlift with a high-speed detachable quad. This upgrade will double the uphill capacity to 1,800 skiers per hour and reduce the ride time to six minutes. Other improvements include RFID ticketing to reduce wait times and beginner terrain improvements. The resort is widening trails such as Bear Hollow and Snowshoe to improve flow and safety. The Needles Gondola will also undergo a multi-year refurbishment of its cabins. The resort has received accolades, including being ranked the No. 1 ski resort in North America by *SKI Magazine* in 2024. Snowbasin has invested in lift expansions, terrain enhancements, and guest amenities since hosting the 2002 Winter Olympics. Beyond skiing and snowboarding, Snowbasin is planning a lift-served bike park "Powered by Scott" that will open in the summer of 2026. The bike park will feature beginner-friendly trails, as well as intermediate and advanced flow trails. Currently, Snowbasin is operating 8 lifts. To protect the snowpack during warmer temperatures, select terrain is temporarily closed, including Wildcat, Demoisy, and JP.
