Arduino Releases Matter Discovery Bundle for IoT
Arduino has launched a plug-and-play "Matter Discovery Bundle" to accelerate the prototyping of smart home devices. The kit is designed to help developers and DIYers scan for, and onboard, Matter-compatible devices. This streamlines the creation of interoperable projects for ecosystems like Apple Home, Google Home, and Alexa.
- The core of the bundle is the Arduino Nano Matter board, which is powered by a Silicon Labs MGM240S module featuring a 32-bit Arm® Cortex®-M33 processor. This board specifically enables Matter-over-Thread and Bluetooth Low Energy 5.3 connectivity, but requires a separate Thread border router, such as an Apple HomePod or Google Hub, to bridge to a standard Wi-Fi network. - Included in the kit are three "Modulino" modules for immediate project building: a latching relay capable of switching 250VAC at 8A, a Time-of-Flight distance sensor, and a temperature/humidity thermo sensor. These connect to the main board via a Nano Connector Carrier, which provides solderless expansion through Qwiic and Grove interfaces. - To support developers, Arduino has released a seven-module curriculum alongside the bundle. This free course is designed to take a user from initial setup to the development of a certified Matter-over-Thread product, covering both theory and practical exercises. - The Matter protocol itself is an open-source, IP-based connectivity standard developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA). It aims to unify device communication across disparate smart home ecosystems from tech giants like Apple, Google, and Amazon. - This bundle is part of a larger strategic investment by Arduino into the Matter ecosystem, which has also included the development of a specific software library for the protocol in collaboration with Silicon Labs and the launch of other Matter-compatible hardware. - The complete Arduino Matter Discovery Bundle is priced at $61.04 and is available for purchase directly from the Arduino Store.
