Vikings’ Kyler Murray Value
The Minnesota Vikings landed Kyler Murray in free agency and analysts are calling the deal a value play because the contract balances upside with affordability. The signing has drawn praise for its cost-effectiveness and potential fit in Minnesota’s offense. (vikingswire.usatoday.com)
Kyler Murray signed a one-year, $1.3 million veteran-minimum contract with the Vikings, listed on Spotrac as a 2026 cap hit of $1.3 million. Arizona remains responsible for the bulk of Murray’s pay after his release — media reports put his 2026 guaranteed money at $36.8 million, meaning Arizona covers roughly $35–36 million while Minnesota carries the $1.3 million salary. Pro Football Focus placed Murray among its top “value” signings and PFF’s Mason Cameron wrote there is “virtually no downside” to adding a high-upside QB at a basement price. The deal includes a no-tag clause that prevents Minnesota from using the franchise or transition tag on Murray in 2027, guaranteeing him an unfettered path back to free agency next offseason. Murray joins a competition with J.J. McCarthy — Minnesota’s 2024 No. 10 pick who posted a 35.6 QBR in 10 starts last season — giving coach Kevin O’Connell two former first-round quarterbacks to evaluate in camp. Murray has missed 27 games between 2022–25 after a 2022 ACL tear and last season’s foot injury, but still enters Minnesota with 153 career touchdowns and two Pro Bowl selections on his résumé.
