Marine Serre Collaborates with the Louvre

Paris Fashion Week is buzzing with Marine Serre's Fall 2026 collection, unveiled with an exciting collaboration with the Louvre that fuses high art and fashion in a bold new direction. The partnership represents a growing trend of fashion houses working directly with major cultural institutions for runway presentations.

The collaboration for Marine Serre's Fall/Winter 2026 collection, titled "The Grace of Time," centers heavily on the Louvre's most famous resident: the Mona Lisa. The partnership involves Serre upcycling existing museum merchandise, such as souvenir t-shirts and medals, to give them a new life within her collection. This approach aligns with the brand's core ethos, as at least 50% of Serre's collections consist of upcycled materials. Five couture looks in the collection were directly inspired by the Louvre's art and its approach to preservation, a concept developed through dialogues with the museum's curators. Serre uses puzzles featuring the iconic portrait to create fragmented, mosaic-like garments that move with the body, transforming the wearer into a living canvas. The collection also playfully incorporates objects associated with artists, like paintbrushes and tubes of paint, into the designs. While the Louvre has long been a source of inspiration for designers and the setting for fashion shows, it only hosted its first-ever exhibition dedicated solely to fashion in 2025, titled "Louvre Couture: Art and fashion—statement pieces". This recent embrace of fashion as an art form in its own right provides a significant backdrop for the Marine Serre partnership. This collaboration is part of a larger trend of fashion houses partnering with major cultural institutions. Other notable examples include Louis Vuitton's long-standing relationship with the Louvre, Gucci's partnership with the Uffizi Gallery, and collections by Vans and the Van Gogh Museum, and Supreme with the Metropolitan Museum of Art. These partnerships are seen as mutually beneficial, offering brands cultural prestige while providing museums with financial support and a way to reach new, younger audiences. Marine Serre, a French designer born in 1991, has been a rising star in the fashion world since winning the prestigious LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers in 2017. Before launching her own label, she honed her skills at legacy houses such as Alexander McQueen, Maison Margiela, Dior, and Balenciaga. Recognizable by her signature crescent moon motif, which debuted in her 2016 graduate collection "Radical Call For Love," Serre's brand is known for its blend of sportswear, couture, and a futuristic, eco-conscious aesthetic. This collaboration with the Louvre brings her focus on regeneration and reinterpreting history to one of the world's most iconic cultural stages.
