Assassin's Creed Gets Major Overhaul
Ubisoft dropped huge Assassin's Creed updates including Black Flag remake (Resynced), a darker narrative-driven Codename Hexe, PvP multiplayer Codename Invictus, Shadows anniversary content, a Netflix show, and Unity 60 FPS patch. The announcements span multiple games and media formats, marking one of the franchise's biggest expansions.
*Codename Hexe* is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal and is set during the 16th-century witch trials of the Holy Roman Empire. The project, described as a darker, narrative-driven experience, recently saw Jean Guesdon take over as Creative Director, replacing the departed Clint Hocking. The multiplayer project, *Codename Invictus*, is being handled by a team of *For Honor* veterans at Ubisoft Montreal. While early rumors suggested a party-style game, Ubisoft has clarified it is a "new approach to multiplayer" for the franchise and "isn't quite what the rumors have suggested." Support for last year's *Assassin's Creed Shadows* will be winding down as it enters its "final phase." Ubisoft plans to shift to smaller, less frequent updates for the Japan-set game as development teams pivot to future projects. The live-action Netflix series is moving forward with new showrunners, Roberto Patino (*Westworld*) and David Wiener (*Halo*), who will also serve as creators and executive producers. The writing team includes talent from productions like HBO's *Watchmen* and *Westworld*. The patch enabling *Assassin's Creed Unity* to run at 60 frames per second is scheduled for release on March 5th for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. While new for PlayStation users, the game was previously playable at 60 FPS on Xbox through the platform's FPS Boost program.
