Texas Tech Sweeps Track Championship
Texas Tech swept the 2026 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championship with multiple records falling during the meet. Their comprehensive team effort and record-breaking performances set a high standard as athletes shift focus to the outdoor season. This affirms Texas Tech's status as a collegiate track and field powerhouse.
The victory was a nail-biter for the Texas Tech men, who edged out Kansas State by a single point, 125-124. The women's team secured their win over BYU with a 4.5-point margin, scoring 114.5 points to BYU's 110. This marks the second consecutive year that the Red Raiders have swept the indoor conference titles. The men's victory is their fourth straight Big 12 indoor title, a feat only matched once before in the conference's history by Nebraska from 2000-2005. For the women, this is their second-consecutive indoor championship. The sweep highlights the continued dominance of the program under head coach Wes Kittley, who has now led the Red Raiders to 16 Big 12 team championships. Malachi Snow was a standout performer, earning the men's High Point Performer award with 20 points. He claimed victory in both the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.43 seconds and the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.46 seconds, setting new meet records in both events. On the field, Jonathan Seremes captured the men's triple jump title with a leap of 16.96 meters (55 feet, 7 ¾ inches), which was not only a new Big 12 meet record but also the leading mark in the NCAA. Other individual champions for the Red Raiders included George Garcia in the 600-yard run, Stephen Mutai in the 800 meters, Tonie-Ann Forbes in the women's 60-meter hurdles, and Ruta Lasmane in the women's triple jump. With the conference championships concluded, Texas Tech athletes will now turn their attention to the NCAA Indoor Championships. Athletes with top national marks, like Snow and Seremes, will be looking to translate their Big 12 success into national titles. The back-to-back sweep of the conference titles solidifies Texas Tech's position as a powerhouse in collegiate track and field. The men's team's sustained success and the women's consecutive victories demonstrate the depth and talent of the program built by Coach Kittley.
