Perplexity AI Unveils 'Personal Computer'
Perplexity unveiled "Personal Computer," an always-on local AI merging with their tools for secure, persistent access across files and apps via Mac mini.
Perplexity's "Personal Computer" isn't a physical device but a cloud-based AI system functioning as an autonomous digital worker. It aims to handle tasks from start to finish, planning the work, assigning tasks to specialized AI models, executing them, and delivering the finished product. This system orchestrates multiple AI models, reportedly 19, from various providers, selecting the best one for each subtask. Claude Opus 4.6 serves as the core reasoning engine, while other models like Gemini, Grok, and GPT-5.2 handle tasks like research, lightweight tasks, and long-context work. Users can also manually select specific models for subtasks. Currently, Personal Computer is exclusively available to Perplexity Max subscribers at $200/month, which includes 10,000 tokens per month. It uses a credit-based pricing system, and users can set spending caps per project. Perplexity has indicated that access will expand to Pro subscribers ($20/month) and Enterprise users in the future. Alternatives to Perplexity AI include ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Claude, each offering unique features and strengths in natural language processing and knowledge synthesis. Perplexity Computer differs by orchestrating multiple LLMs rather than locking into a single provider.
