Mobility Tech Firm Arrive to Acquire Passport

Urban mobility platform Arrive has announced its intent to acquire Passport, a transportation software and payments company. The deal aims to create a more integrated platform for urban mobility, with a focus on advancing the integration of self-driving technologies.

Passport, founded in 2010, is a major player in North American transportation software, providing mobile payment and management platforms for parking and transit to over 1,000 cities, including Chicago, Toronto, and Los Angeles. The Charlotte-based company has been recognized on the Inc. 5000 and Deloitte Technology Fast 500 lists for its rapid growth. The company is well-funded, having raised over $200 million in total capital. Key funding rounds include a $43 million investment led by Bain Capital Ventures in 2017 and a subsequent $90 million in growth capital from Sixth Street Growth in 2021. Acquirer Arrive, founded in 2006, specializes in using data-driven insights to help cities optimize parking, public transport, and fleet management. This acquisition continues Arrive's strategy of expansion, following its purchase of parking startups CodiPark in 2018 and sPARK Parking Technologies in 2020. Arrive CEO Cameron Clayton stated the deal is a "pivotal step" to "future-proof urban mobility." The core strategy is to leverage Passport's extensive city relationships and software platform to better integrate emerging self-driving technologies into communities. This merger occurs within a booming urban mobility market, which is projected to grow from an estimated $185.4 billion in 2025 to over $485.2 billion by 2033. The sector's expansion is driven by increasing urbanization and the demand for more efficient transportation solutions. The combined entity will merge Passport's widely adopted payments and citation management software with Arrive's data analytics and smart mobility solutions. This creates a comprehensive operating system for cities to manage the complexities of curb space, from parking to preparing for autonomous vehicle networks.
