Climate fiction shortlist

The 2026 Climate Fiction Prize shortlisted six novels — including Madeleine Thien’s The Book of Records, Robbie Arnott’s Dusk, and Maria Reva’s Endling — praised for 'exceptional imagination and craft.' The list also includes Keshava Guha, Susanna Kwan, and Helen Phillips, signaling a stretch in how contemporary fiction is treating climate and nature. (theguardian.com) (thebookseller.com)

The Climate Fiction Prize awards a £10,000 purse to its winning novelist, the same sum paid to last year’s inaugural winner. (climatefictionprize.co.uk) Organisers say the award is supported by Climate Spring, a global storytelling organisation set up to shift how the climate crisis is represented in entertainment and culture. (climatefictionprize.co.uk) The prize was founded by Rose Goddard, Imran Khan and Leo Barasi and is now administered with editorial support from Climate Spring. (locusmag.com) This year’s judging panel is chaired by Arifa Akbar and includes Kit de Waal, Jessie Greengrass, Dr Friederike Otto and Simon Savidge. (climatefictionprize.co.uk) Submissions for the 2026 cycle opened on 2 October 2025 and closed on 13 November 2025, with a 12-title longlist revealed on 5 February 2026. (climatefictionprize.co.uk) The organisers scheduled a shortlist event at The Conduit in London on 18 March and plan to announce the winner on 27 May, with a celebration at the Hay Festival on 30 May.
