Precision Biologics Builds New US Plant

Precision Biologics Manufacturing has broken ground on a new biologics manufacturing facility in the U.S. The advanced plant is expected to expand domestic capacity for biologics and wound care products. The project is anticipated to create between 200 and 300 new jobs.

- The new GMP-compliant facility in Henderson, Nevada, is a key step in the vertical integration strategy of its parent company, New Horizon Medical Solutions. This move follows New Horizon's acquisition of Precise Bioscience, a company specializing in advanced lyophilized amniotic membrane technology for wound care products like Xcell Amnio Matrix and Xcellerate. - The project is led by Will Hall, CEO of New Horizon Medical Solutions, who has a background in scaling medical technology companies and has held roles at Stryker and Carl Zeiss Meditec. The new plant is described as a foundational technology center for advanced engineering, development, and testing, not just production. - This expansion allows for in-house control over the manufacturing of amniotic-based skin substitutes, which are processed to preserve key tissue components that support wound healing. - Advanced biologics facilities increasingly incorporate Industry 4.0 principles, integrating automation, data analytics, and AI to enhance precision and efficiency in GMP environments. This aligns with the trend of using robotic systems to streamline complex processes and reduce human error. - For process development and optimization, modern biomanufacturing leverages digital twins—virtual models of the entire process chain that use real-time data to simulate, predict, and optimize outcomes without costly physical experiments. - Data infrastructure in such advanced facilities typically relies on integrated Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and electronic batch records (EBRs) to ensure data integrity, traceability, and compliance with 21 CFR Part 11. EBR systems are critical for replacing paper-based records, enabling review-by-exception and ensuring chain of custody for materials.
