LeBron Makes NBA History
LeBron James just passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for most field goals made in NBA history. This adds another record to LeBron's already stacked resume as he continues playing at an elite level in his 22nd season.
The record-breaking shot was a signature baseline turnaround jumper over Nuggets forward Zeke Nnaji with 12.3 seconds left in the first quarter. This historic basket gave James 15,838 career field goals, surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's 15,837. The game took place on March 5, 2026, in Denver, though the Lakers ultimately lost to the Nuggets 120-113. This milestone is another instance of James eclipsing a record held by Abdul-Jabbar; he previously passed him to become the NBA's all-time leading scorer on February 7, 2023. While Abdul-Jabbar took 20 seasons to set his record, James accomplished the feat in his 22nd season. The two are the only players in NBA history to exceed 15,000 made field goals. To put the accomplishment in perspective, Karl Malone is a distant third on the all-time list with 13,528 field goals. Among active players, Kevin Durant is the next closest but trails by a significant margin. The record underscores James's remarkable longevity and consistent scoring ability deep into his career. At 41 years old, James continues to add to a list of accolades that includes being the all-time leader in playoff scoring and the only player in history with over 40,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, and 10,000 assists. He also holds the records for most All-NBA selections and most consecutive games scoring in double digits.
