Nike to sponsor HYROX events, deepening its hybrid-racing push

- Nike expanded its HYROX push on August 3 by launching the Hybrid footwear system after testing prototypes with sponsored athletes at recent world championships. - Lauren Weeks, identified as a 2026 HYROX Doubles World Champion, said hybrid racing asks “a lot more” from shoes than road running. - Nike said the Hybrid RN goes on sale September 24 in China and October 8 globally; Hybrid Fly follows in April 2027.

Nike has moved deeper into hybrid racing with new footwear, athlete sponsorships and a closer relationship with the HYROX competition circuit. The company on August 3 unveiled Nike Hybrid, a two-shoe training and racing system built for athletes who alternate between running and functional workout stations in the same event. Athletech reported Nike also sponsored hybrid athletes and used this year’s world championships as a testing ground for prototypes worn in competition. ### Why is Nike making shoes for HYROX-style racing now? Nike said hybrid training and racing had grown enough that athletes were being forced to choose between running shoes built for speed and training shoes built for stability. In its product release, the company said the new line was designed to solve that tradeoff with one model for race day and another for everyday training. (about.nike.com) HYROX describes itself as “the fastest growing mass participation fitness concept in the world” and says it has more than 45 races across 11 countries, along with more than 2,000 gym activations and 1,000 affiliate gym partners. That scale helps explain why a large performance brand would treat the category as a dedicated footwear segment rather than a niche crossover use case. ### What exactly did Nike launch? (about.nike.com) Nike on August 3 introduced two models: the Nike Hybrid Fly and the Nike Hybrid RN. The company said the Hybrid Fly is a racing shoe built for competition, while the Hybrid RN is a training model meant for daily hybrid workouts. Nike said the system draws on its existing performance platforms, including Nike Air, ZoomX foam, ReactX foam and carbon-fiber Flyplate technology. (hyrox.com) The company said those features were tuned for movements common in hybrid racing, including sled pushes, sled pulls, lunges, rows, ski ergs and running. (about.nike.com) ### Which athletes are already tied to the push? Lauren Weeks was quoted by Athletech saying hybrid racing asks more from a shoe than standard road running. The report identified Weeks as a 2026 HYROX Doubles World Champion and said Nike had been backing hybrid athletes as it developed the category. Dylan Scott is one of those athletes already featured by Nike in its HYROX coverage. (about.nike.com) In a June 17 profile, Nike described Scott as a Nike athlete heading into the 2026 HYROX World Championships in Stockholm after finishing third at the previous year’s championships in Chicago. ### Where did Nike test the product in competition? Athletech reported Nike used this year’s HYROX world championships as a proving ground for prototypes. (vitaminrush.com) The report said some sponsored athletes wore prototype versions during the event, giving Nike a live competition setting rather than a lab-only rollout. Nike’s own June 17 profile of Scott said the 2026 HYROX World Championships were held in Stockholm and referred to the prior championships in Chicago. (about.nike.com) That places Nike’s product push alongside the sport’s biggest annual event and ties the launch to athletes already competing on the circuit. ### When will consumers be able to buy the shoes? (vitaminrush.com) Nike said the Hybrid RN will release in China on September 24 and become available globally on October 8 through nike.com and select retail locations. The company said the Hybrid Fly, the race-focused model, will launch globally in April 2027. (about.nike.com) Nike’s next public milestone is that retail rollout. HYROX’s upcoming race listings remain available on its official event pages, while Nike’s launch timing is set out in the company’s August 3 product release. (about.nike.com)
