Sign up: Walk the Wight

If you like long coastal walks, Walk the Wight registration closes at noon next Thursday and organizers warned that’s the cutoff to receive event packs by post. (Local Isle of Wight organizers set the deadline for entrants who want mailed materials and suggested signing up this week.) (onthewight.com) (iwradio.co.uk)

If you want the Walk the Wight pack to land in your mailbox instead of a collection point, the cutoff is 12 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, for an event that is still more than three weeks away on Sunday, May 10, 2026. (onthewight.com) That mailed pack includes a walker number, a taking part guide, a T-shirt, and any extras you buy, including caps for £15, socks for £7.50, reusable water bottles for £12, and dog bandanas for £5. (iwradio.co.uk) Walk the Wight is not a niche ramble for hardened hikers. Mountbatten Isle of Wight says up to 10,000 people take part, and the event raises more than £500,000 a year for the island’s only hospice. (mountbatten.org.uk) (onthewight.com) The walk has been running since 1991, when Bill Bradley and Frank Stevens started it, and it has turned into one of the Isle of Wight’s best-known annual fundraisers. (mountbatten.org.uk) This year’s event is backed by Isle of Wight Festival and Red Funnel, and Mountbatten has set it up with several route options instead of one all-or-nothing crossing. (onthewight.com) (mountbatten.org.uk) Those routes include the Full Walk, a Half Walk, the Flat Walk, and the Schools Walk, with Mountbatten describing the mix as everything from full-day treks to shorter family-friendly options. (mountbatten.org.uk 1) (mountbatten.org.uk 2) The pricing also changes before the event does. Mountbatten’s frequently asked questions page says entry is £15 per walker until 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 16. (mountbatten.org.uk) That means next Thursday has two separate deadlines on the same morning: 9 a.m. for the £15 entry price and 12 p.m. for guaranteed postal packs. After that, you can still plan to walk on May 10, but the post-out window is gone. (mountbatten.org.uk) (onthewight.com) Last year gives a sense of the scale. More than 9,300 people took part in Walk the Wight 2025 on Sunday, May 11, and Mountbatten said the early fundraising total was already £410,000 before later updates pushed the running total above £500,000.
