Anbernic RG Rotate

Anbernic officially unveiled the RG Rotate, a pocket-friendly retro handheld built around a mechanical swiveling display that recalls classic flip phones. Reviews and previews note aluminum or plastic builds, a square screen on a proprietary hinge, Android underpinnings, and claimed support for N64 emulation via a modular interface — the company released a trailer but kept exact release timing vague. Anbernic has officially revealed the RG Rotate, a retro handheld with a swiveling square screen that flips open to expose its controls. (youtube.com) The company posted the reveal trailer on April 13, 2026, and Android Authority reported the device is coming “soon” rather than on a fixed launch date. The trailer shows two finishes, Aurora Silver and Polar Black. (androidauthority.com) Anbernic said the RG Rotate runs Android and uses a “self-developed ultra-thin alloy hinge” that it said passed durability testing. The same trailer says buyers will be able to choose aluminum or ABS plastic body materials. (youtube.com) The hinge is the whole pitch here: the handheld starts as a compact square, then the display rotates upward like a 2000s swivel phone to reveal the gamepad underneath. Engadget said that makes the RG Rotate stand out in a market crowded with lookalike retro devices. (engadget.com) Anbernic has spent the last year filling out its lineup with more conventional shapes, including clamshell and dual-screen models such as the RG 34XXSP and RG DS. The RG Rotate pushes that hardware experimentation further by turning the screen mechanism into the defining feature. (engadget.com) (anbernic.com) The company also appears to be aiming at players who want a tiny device without giving up Nintendo 64-era games. TechNetBooks reported Anbernic’s marketing points to Nintendo 64 emulation through a modular control setup, while Android Authority said the shoulder buttons can be swapped between higher and lower profiles. (technetbooks.com) (androidauthority.com) Leaks before the announcement had suggested a 1:1 display and a body inspired by phones like the Motorola FlipOut, and official footage now matches the basic form factor those reports described. Time Extension said Anbernic still has not published a price or release date. (timeextension.com) For now, the RG Rotate is a real product with a trailer, a name, and a hinge Anbernic wants people to notice first. The missing details are the ones that usually decide these handheld launches: price, availability, and how well that moving screen holds up outside the promo video. (youtube.com) (engadget.com)
