Luxury LGBTQ+ Hotel Planned for Chicago's Northalsted

Tryst Hospitality is developing a new luxury boutique hotel in Chicago's Northalsted neighborhood, the city's historic gay district. The hotel is designed to cater specifically to the LGBTQ+ community, adding a new upscale lodging option to the area.

- The planned five-story hotel will be located at 3350-3352 N. Halsted St., the former site of the popular D.S. Tequila Company, which closed in November 2023 after 14 years. Tryst Hospitality's founder, Tristan Schukraft, purchased the property for $3.1 million. - The boutique hotel will feature 21 rooms, a restaurant, a nightclub, and an enclosed rooftop with a pool and bar. The project requires a zoning change from the City Council and is currently in the community feedback phase. - This is the second hotel planned for the Northalsted district; the 50-room Backbeat Hotel is slated to open in 2028 at 3255 N. Halsted St., the former site of Yoshi's Café. - Tryst Hospitality is a luxury brand focused on the LGBTQ+ community, with existing hotels in Puerto Vallarta and San Juan, and others planned for Fire Island, Provincetown, Wilton Manors, and Rio de Janeiro. - The founder and CEO of Tryst Hospitality, Tristan Schukraft, also founded Mistr, a telehealth platform for HIV prevention, and owns other iconic LGBTQ+ venues like The Abbey in West Hollywood. - Northalsted, formerly known as Boystown, was the first officially recognized gay village in the United States, designated by Mayor Richard M. Daley in 1997. The area is home to the Legacy Walk, the world's only outdoor LGBTQ history museum.
