OpenAI expands GPT‑5 rollout

OpenAI notes that GPT‑5 is being rolled out gradually across ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Team and Free tiers on web, mobile and desktop while connectors remain in beta and are defaulted off for Enterprise and Edu workspaces. Analysts flag that the company is segmenting products by performance and governance, with speed‑focused variants also appearing. (help.openai.com) (futurumgroup.com)

OpenAI is widening GPT-5 access in ChatGPT, with the model now rolling out across Plus, Pro, Team, and Free accounts on web, mobile, and desktop. (help.openai.com) OpenAI’s release notes say GPT-5 is “slowly rolling out” worldwide to those tiers, while Enterprise and Education plans are slated to get it later. The same help documentation says GPT-5 is the new default for logged-in users in ChatGPT. (help.openai.com 1) (help.openai.com 2) The company has also been updating the lineup around that default model. OpenAI’s model notes show GPT-5.1 models were retired from ChatGPT on March 11, 2026, with conversations moved onto GPT-5.3 Instant, GPT-5.4 Thinking, or GPT-5.4 Pro. (help.openai.com) That leaves ChatGPT with a more tiered setup: a general GPT-5 default for most users, faster “Instant” versions for quick replies, and “Thinking” or “Pro” versions for heavier reasoning. OpenAI’s Plus plan page says Plus includes GPT-5, while Pro includes GPT-5.4 Pro and unlimited GPT-5.3 use, subject to guardrails. (chatgpt.com) (help.openai.com) OpenAI is also splitting product access from workplace controls. In Enterprise and Education release notes dated March 27, 2026, updated Box, Notion, Linear, and Dropbox apps are disabled by default, and admins must turn them on in workspace settings. (help.openai.com) Those admin controls sit alongside newer governance features. On April 9, 2026, OpenAI added a setting that lets Enterprise owners hide Security Assertion Markup Language and System for Cross-domain Identity Management-managed groups from sharing flows, which the company said can reduce accidental oversharing. (help.openai.com) Analyst firm Futurum said the faster-model push is aimed at buyers who care about latency, price, and workflow fit as generative artificial intelligence moves into production systems. Its April 12 note said 67% of organizations in its 1H 2026 survey were already running generative artificial intelligence in production and 75% expected to raise budgets. (futurumgroup.com) Futurum also said OpenAI GPT led enterprise adoption in that survey at 61%, ahead of Azure OpenAI at 50% and Google Gemini at 47%. That helps explain why OpenAI is shipping both broader consumer access and more segmented workplace controls at the same time. (futurumgroup.com) For users, the practical change is simple: more ChatGPT accounts are getting GPT-5 as the default experience, while the underlying product stack is becoming more specialized by speed, reasoning depth, and admin policy.
