Mistral AI Acquires Koyeb for Full-Stack Cloud

Mistral AI has acquired cloud infrastructure startup Koyeb to accelerate its development of a full-stack AI cloud platform. The move aims to give Mistral tighter control over model hosting and serving, simplifying the deployment of its open-weight models for enterprise customers. This acquisition signals a broader trend of foundation model providers moving up the stack to offer integrated, enterprise-ready solutions.

- Koyeb was founded in Paris in 2020 by three former employees of the cloud provider Scaleway: Yann Léger, Edouard Bonlieu, and Bastien Chatelard. - The company developed a serverless platform for deploying applications across multiple cloud providers, offering GPU instances including Nvidia's L40S, A100, and H100 models. - This is Mistral AI's first acquisition, bringing Koyeb's team of 13 employees and its three co-founders into Mistral's engineering organization. - The acquisition accelerates the development of "Mistral Compute," a cloud infrastructure service launched in June 2025 to provide a sovereign European alternative to US-based cloud providers. - Before the acquisition, Koyeb had raised a total of $8.6 million, including a $7 million seed round in 2023 led by the French venture capital firm Serena. - The move is part of a larger infrastructure investment by Mistral AI, which includes a $1.4 billion plan for data centers in Sweden and the deployment of 18,000 Nvidia Blackwell GPUs. - The acquisition comes as Mistral AI's valuation has reached $13.8 billion, with reported annual recurring revenue surpassing $400 million.
