Milan Design Week highlights
Wallpaper published a guide to Milan Design Week and Salone del Mobile 2026 as a central cultural moment this week, pointing to installations and brand activations to watch. (wallpaper.com) The program includes collaborative activations — 10 Corso Como is operating like a living, cross‑category hub and Moncler staged a pop‑up for a new summer collection amid broader exhibition highlights. Milan Design Week has turned Milan into a citywide design stage again, with Salone del Mobile running April 21-26 and Fuorisalone events spreading across town from April 20-26. (salonemilano.it) (fuorisalone.it) The trade fair is back at the Rho fairgrounds for the 64th edition of Salone del Mobile, while Fuorisalone fills districts including Brera, Tortona and Isola with exhibitions, talks and installations. Milan’s tourism board says the 2026 program includes more than 1,850 events across 19 districts and draws more than 200,000 visitors. (wallpaper.com) (visitmilano.org) One of the week’s clearest signals is how much fashion and retail now sit inside the design calendar. Fuorisalone lists Moncler’s “Have a Puffy Summer” at 10 Corso Como in Brera from April 20-26, presenting the brand’s new collection through an installation built around “puffy silhouettes and light layers.” (fuorisalone.it) 10 Corso Como has stretched that activation beyond the core fair dates. Its own program says a giant “puffy octopus” by set designer Andy Hillman covers the façade and interior from April 16-28, alongside 24 mannequins styled in looks from Moncler’s Summer 2026 collection. (10corsocomo.com) The wider calendar shows the same mix of product launch, exhibition and spectacle. Dezeen’s 2026 guide lists Prada Frames from April 19-21, Alcova from April 20-26, Audi with Zaha Hadid Architects from April 20-26, and VitrA with Snøhetta through April 30. (dezeen.com) Organizers are also trying to make the week easier to navigate. Fuorisalone introduced a new “Passport” system for Brera this year, giving visitors a free registration and personal QR code for participating events. (fuorisalone.it) This year’s official Fuorisalone theme is “Be the Project,” or “Essere Progetto,” which frames design as a process shaped by experiments, mistakes and collaboration rather than as a finished object. Milan’s official visitor guide says the 2026 edition also puts sustainability, artificial intelligence, bio-based materials and circular design at the center of the program. (fuorisalone.it) (visitmilano.org) Salone itself is adding new formats inside the fairgrounds. Wallpaper reports that 2026 introduces “Salone Raritas,” a platform for limited-edition design and high-end manufacturing curated by Annalisa Rosso and designed by Formafantasma, alongside a new contract-design focus led by Office for Metropolitan Architecture. (wallpaper.com) The result is a week where a furniture fair, a public festival and luxury-brand activations now run as one ecosystem. In Milan this week, the shortest route to understanding design culture may be walking from the Rho halls to a courtyard in Brera. (salonemilano.it) (fuorisalone.it)
