Heavy's Barburger Opens in Downtown Charleston

A new restaurant, Heavy's Barburger, has opened on Morrison Drive in downtown Charleston. The establishment is open for business daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

- The restaurant is a family-owned business launched by experienced Charleston restaurateurs John and Brenda Haire, who have also owned Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q. - The name "Heavy's" is a tribute to co-owner John Haire's grandfather, who was known by that nickname. - This downtown location at 1137 Morrison Drive is the original Heavy's Barburger, which first opened in August 2022. The owners have since expanded with a second location on Daniel Island and have a third planned for Isle of Palms. - The signature "Barburger" is a double-patty smash burger with American cheese, tomato, red onion, lettuce, pickles, and a special "Heavy's sauce." - Before becoming Heavy's, the building at 1137 Morrison Drive was home to another popular burger spot, The Tattooed Moose. - The Morrison Drive corridor, once an industrial area, has seen a boom in development, attracting breweries, restaurants, and tech companies, earning it the nickname the "Creative Corridor." - The restaurant's interior features design elements like family-style seating and vintage sound systems to create a "vibey" neighborhood atmosphere. - Through its "Pass the Hat" program, the Charleston location has donated over $10,000 to various nonprofit organizations.
