Stephen Lang Film Opens
*The Optimist*, starring Stephen Lang and Elsie Fisher, opened March 11, praised for its Holocaust-themed healing narrative https://x.com/i/status/2031020624446206313.
The film is very loosely based on the life of Herbert Curt Heller, a Holocaust survivor who began speaking publicly about his experiences later in life. Heller was deported to Terezin and then Auschwitz as a child, later escaping a death march. He emigrated to the United States and opened a successful business, keeping his past a secret for many years. "The Optimist," directed by Finn Taylor, focuses on Heller's connection with Abby, a troubled teenager, played by Elsie Fisher. Abby is tasked with recording Heller's recollections, leading to a bond between the two. The film explores themes of healing and intergenerational connection through their shared pain. Stephen Lang, known for his roles in "Avatar" and "Don't Breathe," portrays Heller. Lang researched Heller and visited Holocaust sites to prepare for the role. He aimed to capture Heller's spirit and positive outlook despite his experiences.
