Expect route changes and updated resupply points [https://www.hikingamerica.com/field-notes-adt-trail-updates-march-2026/].
Rhiis and Sara resumed their American Discovery Trail (ADT) journey on March 10, picking up the Southern Route at the Illinois/Indiana border after pausing near the end of the ADT Northern Route in 2025. They spent the winter in Southern California and Arizona. Their first night back on the trail was spent in an abandoned church. The American Discovery Trail, approximately 6,800 miles long, is the first non-motorized coast-to-coast trail, stretching through 15 states and Washington, D.C.. The ADT connects various local, state, and national trails, showcasing diverse landscapes from deserts to forests. Hikers should note route changes in Indiana; the Cardinal Greenway detour on the Northern Route is now open, and the bridge west of Meinrad on the Southern Route is complete. The Shell convenience store in Meinrad has also reopened, providing a resupply option.
