Explora I Starts 24-Night Miami-Barcelona
The Explora I cruise sets sail from Miami today on a 24-night journey ending in Barcelona on April 2. The itinerary promises tropical delights, storied coastlines, and a wealth of artistic and historic ports, making it a dream voyage for explorers seeking both relaxation and cultural enrichment.
Explora I is the first of six planned luxury vessels for Explora Journeys, the new upscale brand from the privately-owned Swiss-Italian shipping giant MSC Group. This venture is MSC's direct entry into the high-end market, competing with established names like Seabourn and Regent Seven Seas. The ship was built by Fincantieri in Italy and officially launched in August 2023. The vessel accommodates up to 922 guests in 461 oceanfront suites, all of which feature private terraces and floor-to-ceiling windows. With a crew of 640, the guest-to-crew ratio is approximately 1.25 to 1, a figure designed to ensure a high level of personalized service. Onboard amenities are extensive, featuring four swimming pools, five whirlpools, and numerous private cabanas. Guests have access to nine distinct culinary experiences, including a Pan-Asian restaurant, a European steakhouse, and French-inspired dining, with a focus on sustainable and locally sourced ingredients. The ship spans 14 decks and has a gross tonnage of 63,900. It is equipped with the latest marine and environmental technologies, such as being Rina-Dolphin-certified for reduced underwater noise. Explora Journeys has also committed to eliminating single-use plastics on its ships.
