Fremont police arrested a 43-year-old parolee Monday after officers found him hiding inside a garbage dumpster during a foot chase that began when they spotted a gun handle protruding from his clothing. (kron4.com) The incident started at 8:38 a.m. on April 20 near Industrial Drive and South Grimmer Boulevard, according to police. Officers said the man ran when they stopped him and saw the firearm. (kron4.com) Police said the suspect ran through barbed wire and into an area of businesses, prompting officers to set up a containment perimeter. Bystanders then told officers he may have jumped into a dumpster on Pestana Court. (yahoo.com) Officers used a drone for aerial surveillance, opened the dumpster lid, and sent in a police dog to help take the suspect into custody. Fremont police identified him as Fortino Preciado. (kron4.com) Police said Preciado was on parole for a prior resisting-arrest case when he was detained again Monday. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, and resisting arrest. (yahoo.com) The arrest fits a pattern in Fremont, where police have recently publicized other armed-suspect and pursuit cases, including a March 2026 carjacking arrest after a chase through a school playground. The department also maintains a public crime map and weekly blotter that update reported incidents across the city. (patch.com) (fremontpolice.gov) Fremont police have also used drones and K-9 units in earlier suspect searches, and the department says its CityProtect map shows reported crimes from the past 180 days with daily updates. The department says the map is intended as a transparency tool and not a full measure of neighborhood safety.
