ROSÉ First K-Pop BRIT Award Winner
ROSÉ became the first K-pop artist to win a BRIT award, breaking new ground for Korean artists in UK music recognition. The achievement was highlighted in pop news roundups that also featured Harry Styles' viral 'Aperture' dance break at the ceremony and Ariana Grande teasing her upcoming #AG8 project.
ROSÉ's win in the International Song of the Year category came for her hit collaboration "APT." with Bruno Mars. The song, a pre-release single from her debut solo album "rosie," became a global sensation after its release in October 2024. "APT." is noted for its catchy refrain inspired by a popular Korean drinking game. The track peaked at No. 2 on the UK's Official Singles Chart and remained on the chart for over a year. It also set a record for the longest run for a K-pop track on the Billboard Hot 100, staying on the chart for 45 weeks and peaking at number three. While this was the first win for a K-pop artist, it wasn't the first nomination. BTS was nominated for International Group of the Year in 2021 and 2022, and ROSÉ's own group BLACKPINK was nominated in the same category in 2023. Korean DJ Peggy Gou was also nominated for International Song of the Year in 2024. The award was presented at the 46th Brit Awards, held for the first time in Manchester at the Co-op Live arena. In her acceptance speech, ROSÉ thanked Bruno Mars, her BLACKPINK members Jennie, Jisoo, and Lisa, and producer Teddy. The ceremony also featured the live debut of Harry Styles' new single, "Aperture," from his upcoming album "Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally." His performance, which opened the show, included a much-discussed synchronized dance break that surprised fans. Meanwhile, Ariana Grande has been teasing her eighth album, with fans dubbing it #AG8. The speculation was fueled when she updated her Instagram bio for the first time in three years to read “see you this summer ꕤ。˚⋆", and began using eight emojis in her social media comments.
