Moonchild takes Fog City

Moonchild — the husband‑and‑wife team Floyd Nunn and Angelyne Tompkins — will take over the landmark Fog City Diner space in San Francisco by year’s end, signaling a major new destination for the city’s fine dining circuit SF Standard.

The Port of San Francisco waived Moonchild’s first year of rent on the Embarcadero lease, which shifts the initial cashflow burden to later years. (hoodline.com) Under the lease the operators will pay a fixed base rent plus a percentage of gross sales that kicks in above $3,000,000, according to reporting on the deal. (hoodline.com) The restaurant will occupy roughly 4,000 square feet at the flatiron tip of 1300 Battery Street and is expected to inherit much of Fog City’s existing artwork and equipment. (hoodline.com) Chef Floyd Nunn comes to the project with tenure as chef de cuisine at Eight Tables and prior stints at Quince and Benu, while Angelyne Tompkins brings tasting-room and guest‑facing hospitality experience from Sonoma’s Scribe Winery. (blog.resy.com) Fog City closed on May 30, 2025 after a 40‑year run, and its original diner‑inspired interior — designed by Pat Kuleto — sits in a building with a past as a railroad facility and a World War II cafeteria. (sfgate.com) The owners filed Moon Child Restaurant LLC in Mill Valley in 2025, and the team says the new spot will be a wine‑forward California bistro spotlighting Northern California produce and seafood as the waterfront shifts toward more evening‑focused, chef‑driven destinations.
