Microsoft Copilot Rolls Out Widely

Microsoft's AI assistant, Copilot, is now in broad enterprise rollout across its 365 suite. Recent February updates have enhanced its reasoning and automation capabilities, while new usage metrics for GitHub Copilot now let teams track ROI on AI-driven workflows.

The current iteration of Copilot evolved from an AI-powered code assistant for developers, GitHub Copilot, which first entered preview in 2021. Microsoft's broader AI assistant strategy came into public view in March 2023 with the unveiling of Microsoft 365 Copilot, integrating OpenAI's GPT-4 model, followed by the rebranding of Bing Chat to Copilot later that year. By late 2025, Microsoft reported that 90% of Fortune 500 companies were using Copilot in some capacity. However, this "use" often signifies pilot programs, with one 2025 Gartner survey showing only 6% of enterprises had moved beyond the pilot stage.
