Hydrel Releases Design Guide for Linear Floodlights

Lighting manufacturer Hydrel has shared a new design guide for its Ridge series of linear floodlights. The guide provides specifications and application examples for using the fixtures on architectural elements such as bridges and facades.

- The Ridge floodlight is part of a broader portfolio from Hydrel, an Acuity Brands company specializing in outdoor architectural, aquatic, and landscape lighting for over 60 years. Hydrel fixtures are manufactured in Indiana and Minnesota and are designed to meet Buy American Act (BAA) standards. - This linear floodlight family delivers up to 9,000 lumens and 150,000 candela, featuring RGBW Quad Tech for color mixing and proprietary LEDs for white light applications. The system offers precise resolution control down to one-foot increments and is available in 1, 2, 3, and 4-foot nominal lengths that can be continuously run. - For system integration, Hydrel is part of Acuity Brands, which offers the nLight platform for networked lighting controls. This platform can interface with building automation systems through protocols like DALI and BACnet. - The WELL Building Standard's L03 feature for circadian lighting design utilizes Equivalent Melanopic Lux (EML) to measure light's impact on human circadian rhythms. This metric is weighted to the response of intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) and is measured on the vertical plane at eye level. - Recent architectural trends emphasize biophilic design, which involves incorporating natural materials like wood and stone and can improve productivity by 6% and creativity by up to 15%. There's also a move away from minimalism toward more textural surfaces and statement lighting fixtures that serve as artistic focal points. - The lighting industry is shifting toward a circular economy, which focuses on designing products for durability, repairability, and recyclability to minimize waste. Some manufacturers are using 3D printing to create luminaires with a 75% lower carbon footprint compared to conventional metal fixtures.
