Big Sean Opens Up About Depression

Big Sean has spoken publicly about battling severe depression following the death of close friend Nipsey Hussle. Sean described hitting "rock bottom" and credits therapy and his support network for helping him recover.

- Before Nipsey Hussle's death in March 2019, Big Sean had already been open about his mental health, canceling a 2018 tour due to depression and anxiety and starting therapy around that time. - The rapper described his depression following Hussle's death as deeper than what he experienced as a teenager, stating that his intense focus on work had caused him to lose touch with himself. - His 2020 album, *Detroit 2*, features the posthumous Nipsey Hussle collaboration "Deep Reverence." On the track, Sean reveals he had thoughts of suicide and that he and singer Jhené Aiko had experienced a miscarriage. - To cope, Big Sean took an extended break from music, focusing on self-care practices such as meditation, journaling, working out, and eating better. - He has since channeled his experiences into a self-help book titled "Go Higher: Five Practices for Purpose, Success and Inner Peace." - In his journey to give back, he and Usher invested $1 million into the Detroit Entertainment Innovation Incubator, a space designed to help young creatives in his hometown build careers in music, film, and technology. - Big Sean and his long-term partner, singer Jhené Aiko, welcomed a son in November 2022.
