League City to Host 'State of the City' Event

The City of League City will host its annual State of the City event for residents. The meeting will provide updates on current municipal projects and outline future development strategies.

- The event is scheduled for February 20, 2026, from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the Johnnie Arolfo Civic Center and will feature Mayor Nick Long and City Manager John Baumgartner reviewing the city's 2025 achievements and outlining plans for 2026. - A major focus for the city is managing its rapid expansion, as the population is projected to be 120,354 in 2026, an increase from 114,659 in the 2020 census. - The city's Capital Improvement Program for FY2024-2028 includes a significant $308.1 million investment in water and wastewater infrastructure to support this growth, with projects like expanding the Southwest Water Reclamation Facility. - Ongoing and future road projects are a key part of the city's strategy, with plans to connect Hobbs Road to FM 517 and improve the intersection at FM 518 and Bay Area Boulevard to enhance traffic flow and safety. - Economic development initiatives aim to attract new businesses and retail, such as the upcoming Lilac Field, a 24.5-acre mixed-use development that will include 300,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space. - To improve quality of life, the city is advancing various park projects, including a second phase of the Hike and Bike Trails Wayfinding Signage Project and the development of a shoreline trail along Clear Creek. - The city is also focused on enhancing its historic district with projects to add new sidewalks on Main Street and rebuild traffic signals at six intersections along FM 518 to improve walkability and safety.
