Bella Hadid Debuts Retro Bangs
Supermodel Bella Hadid debuted retro-inspired bangs at Milan Fashion Week, channeling a groovy 1970s vibe at the Miss Sixty presentation that's expected to spark copycat trends this spring. Beauty editors also highlighted five standout trends from London Fashion Week, including bold graphic eyeliner and experimental hair emphasizing individual expression.
The new look coincides with Hadid's first design collaboration with Miss Sixty, the Italian denim label for which she's been the face since 2021. The brand, founded by Wicky Hassan in 1991, became synonymous with 90s and Y2K fashion, known for its low-rise jeans and body-conscious silhouettes. After a decline, Miss Sixty was acquired by a Chinese company and relaunched in 2017, tapping into the current wave of Y2K nostalgia. Hadid's partnership and vintage-inspired collection are central to the brand's revived image. The retro bangs are part of a larger 1970s hair revival. The decade was defined by feathered layers, popularized by Farrah Fawcett, and face-framing curtain bangs, a style made famous by icons like Brigitte Bardot and Goldie Hawn. Other key 70s looks included the shag cut, sleek center-parted hair, and voluminous natural afros. This revival isn't limited to Hadid; celebrities like Miley Cyrus and Harry Styles have also embraced 70s-era shag cuts and aesthetics, signaling a broader shift towards the decade's expressive and individualistic styles. Meanwhile, the beauty trends emerging from London Fashion Week skewed more dramatic and experimental. Makeup artist Sofia Tilbury created a bold, graphic winged eyeliner for the Harris Reed show using Charlotte Tilbury's Rock 'n' Kohl Eyeliner in Bedroom Black. Other standout looks included moody, vampy lips in shades of oxblood and plum, flipped-out retro bobs, and a trend dubbed the "all-nighter," featuring purposefully tousled hair and understatedly weary-looking eyes. At some shows, designers even opted for bleached brows to create a striking, otherworldly effect.
