Game of Thrones Universe Expands Again

HBO has officially announced another Game of Thrones series with fans "already bracing for what's coming." The latest spinoff *Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* has undergone a finale title change with significant attention on its depiction of Dorne. Plot specifics remain under wraps, but HBO continues exploring fresh corners of George R.R. Martin's world.

- The series is based on George R.R. Martin's novellas "Tales of Dunk and Egg," which are known for a lighter, more adventurous tone compared to the political intrigue of *Game of Thrones*. The stories follow the travels of Ser Duncan the Tall ("Dunk") and his squire, a boy named "Egg." - The narrative is set approximately 90 years before the events of *Game of Thrones*, during a time when the Targaryen dynasty still holds the Iron Throne. The central character, Egg, is secretly Prince Aegon Targaryen, who would one day become king. - The first season, consisting of six episodes, will adapt the first novella, "The Hedge Knight." The story kicks off when Dunk, a newly-made knight, travels to a tournament at Ashford Meadow where he and Egg have a fateful encounter with members of the Targaryen royal family. - Production for the series began in June 2024 in Belfast. The lead roles are filled by Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg. - Even before its premiere on January 18, 2026, HBO renewed the series for a second season which will be based on the next novella, "The Sworn Sword." - This series is one of several *Game of Thrones* successor shows in development. Others being explored include a prequel about Aegon I Targaryen's conquest of Westeros and an animated series centered on Corlys Velaryon, the "Sea Snake."
