Record Store Day lands on Saturday, April 18, and this year’s biggest public celebration is headed to Rockefeller Center in Manhattan. The organization now says nearly 1,400 independently owned stores in the United States and thousands more internationally take part. Record Store Day says the special titles are released through participating independent stores, and the official list is meant to serve as a shopping guide and wishlist before doors open. Nail City Record in downtown Wheeling, West Virginia, plans to open at 10 a.m. on April 18 and expects customers to line up before the doors open. (theintelligencer.net) In Boise, Idaho, The Record Exchange is stretching the event into a four-day run from Friday, April 17, through Monday, April 20. The store says it will stock 350 exclusive Record Store Day releases on Saturday and stay open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day. (therecordexchange.com) The Boise store is also holding a Record Store Day Eve event at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 17, with an advance listening party for AKA Belle presented with Moon Ruins Records and Boise Brewing. Guests 21 and older can get free beer with valid identification, according to the store. (therecordexchange.com) So the April 18 rush will not just be about a few headline vinyl drops in New York. It will also be about whether local stores from Wheeling to Boise can turn one Saturday of scarce records, early lines and in-store events into a weekend of foot traffic.
