Caltrans said northbound Interstate 405 through the Sepulveda Pass will be reduced to three lanes from 10 p.m. Friday, May 1, through 5 a.m. Monday, May 4. (dot.ca.gov) The closure will affect northbound 405 between Skirball Center Drive and Ventura Boulevard. Caltrans also said the Skirball Center Drive on-ramp to northbound 405 and the northbound Getty Center Drive off-ramp will close for the weekend. (dot.ca.gov) Southbound 405 is not scheduled for lane reductions during the May 1-4 closure. Caltrans told drivers to use alternate routes and public transportation where possible. (dot.ca.gov) The lane cuts are part of Caltrans’ Interstate 405 Sepulveda Pass Pavement Rehabilitation Project, which covers a 10.2-mile stretch between Van Nuys and Westwood. The agency said the work is intended to improve safety, mobility and pavement life on one of Los Angeles’ busiest commuter corridors. (dot.ca.gov) Caltrans said the project will replace sections of two lanes in each direction from Victory Boulevard to Mulholland Drive and rehabilitate other lanes, restoring nearly 92 lane miles overall. The agency also plans sign structure, guardrail and curb-ramp upgrades. (dot.ca.gov) The job is budgeted at about $143.7 million, started in summer 2025 and is expected to finish in winter 2027, with plant establishment continuing into 2028. Caltrans said the freeway is not being widened. (dot.ca.gov) Caltrans announced a second May weekend closure from 10 p.m. Friday, May 15, to 5 a.m. Monday, May 18. That later closure is scheduled to be more restrictive, with northbound 405 reduced to two lanes between Burbank Boulevard and Victory Boulevard and several ramps and U.S. 101 connectors closed. (dot.ca.gov) Patch reported Caltrans has said there will be about 25 extended weekend lane reductions tied to the project, typically running from Friday night into Monday morning. That schedule has already shifted at least once this month after an April closure was postponed because of forecast rain. (patch.com) (dot.ca.gov) For drivers heading between the San Fernando Valley and West Los Angeles, the next pinch point is now set: northbound 405, three lanes, one weekend, and a narrower route through the pass.
