TECNO Unveils AI-Focused CAMON 50 Phone Series at MWC

Smartphone brand TECNO is debuting its new flagship CAMON 50 Series at MWC 2026 in Barcelona. The launch centers on a new family of AI-powered imaging smartphones and a broader AI product ecosystem, signaling a deeper push into on-device intelligence.

TECNO's focus on AI-powered imaging represents a significant evolution from the first CAMON models, the C5 and C8, which launched in 2015 with a primary focus on enhanced low-light performance for budget-conscious consumers. The series has since become synonymous with the brand's push into AI-enhanced photography, aiming to deliver professional-grade imaging without complex controls. The CAMON 50 series builds on features introduced in previous generations, such as the AI-powered tools seen in the CAMON 40 series, which included an AI Image Extender, AI Eraser 2.0, and AIGC Portrait 2.0. For the new flagship, TECNO is syncing Sony hardware with a dedicated AI computing architecture to enable features like Super-Zoom FlashSnap for high-speed action shots and AI Auto Zoom for intelligent subject framing. This push into on-device AI is part of TECNO's broader "Practical AI" strategy, which aims to make advanced technology accessible in emerging markets. The company's AI assistant, "Ella," is a core component of this strategy, and TECNO reported processing over 500 million user requests in 2025, with a significant portion being image-related tasks in non-English languages. Under its parent company, Transsion Holdings, TECNO has become a dominant force in markets across Africa, South Asia, and Latin America. Transsion held over 40% of the African smartphone market share in 2024 and ranked as the fourth-largest global smartphone vendor by shipments. This market position allows TECNO to gather diverse data to improve AI functionalities, such as enhancing skin tone representation in its photography. Beyond the phone, the MWC launch includes an expanded AI product ecosystem. This includes the MEGABOOK laptop portfolio and AI-enhanced smart wearables, all connected through the OneLeap solution for cross-device interaction. A key announcement alongside the CAMON 50 series is a new strategic partnership with Tonino Lamborghini. This collaboration will result in a co-created lineup of devices, including a gaming mini-PC and a limited-edition POVA smartphone, fusing TECNO's technology with the iconic design language of the Italian brand.
