Los Angeles visitors can see preserved human and animal remains from ancient Egypt, South America and Europe at the California Science Center, then watch a 40-minute IMAX film about Egyptian mummies on the same visit. (californiasciencecenter.org) The exhibition, “Mummies of the World,” is now open at the California Science Center in Exposition Park and runs through September 7, 2026. The museum says this Los Angeles showing is the final stop on the exhibition’s international tour and includes mummies not previously shown here. (californiasciencecenter.org) The display includes naturally and intentionally preserved mummies, burial objects, mummification tools and interactive audio-visual material. The Science Center says visitors can also see how CT scans, or Computed Tomography images, are used to study bodies without unwrapping them. (californiasciencecenter.org) The companion film, “Mummies 3D: Secrets of the Pharaohs,” is now playing on the museum’s seven-story IMAX screen. The Science Center lists the runtime at 40 minutes and says the film follows explorers and scientists using archaeological and genetic evidence to study ancient Egyptian mummies. (californiasciencecenter.org) For the current schedule, the museum lists “Mummies 3D” showtimes at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. from April 6 through June 12. The Science Center also posted a special-hours alert for Saturday, April 25, saying the building will close at 3 p.m., with last exhibition entry at 1:30 p.m. and the final IMAX showtime at 3:30 p.m. (californiasciencecenter.org; californiasciencecenter.org) Ticketing splits the exhibition and the film into separate purchases, with a discounted combo option. The Science Center lists exhibition prices at $27.95 for adults and $19.95 for children ages 3 to 12, while the “Mummies 3D” IMAX ticket is listed at $12 for adults and $13 for children, students and seniors; listed prices include a $4 service fee. (californiasciencecenter.org) The museum’s core galleries remain free and do not require a reservation, but the mummy exhibition and IMAX screening are ticketed attractions. An optional audio tour for the exhibition costs $5 and runs about 30 to 45 minutes in English and Spanish. (californiasciencecenter.org) The show returns to a museum that first hosted its world premiere in 2010. The Science Center says the exhibition has drawn more than 2.4 million visitors worldwide since then. (californiasciencecenter.org) Time Out included the exhibition in its Los Angeles picks for the week of April 20, 2026, pointing readers to the museum’s ticketing and showtime pages. For anyone planning the outing now, the practical choice is whether to stop at the artifacts or stay for the IMAX trip into the tombs. (timeout.com; californiasciencecenter.org)
