Assassin's Creed Unity Patched for 60FPS on Next-Gen
Ubisoft has patched the 2014 game *Assassin's Creed Unity* to run at 60 FPS on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. The update provides a significant performance boost for the graphically demanding title on modern hardware.
The 2014 launch of *Assassin's Creed Unity* was notoriously troubled, plagued by widespread technical glitches and significant performance problems across all platforms. Players on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC reported game-breaking bugs, texture pop-in, and frame rates that often dipped well below 30 FPS, leading to a "stuttering" and "unplayable" experience for many. The performance issues were so severe that Ubisoft offered free DLC to players as an apology. The graphically ambitious game, with its dense crowds and detailed recreation of 18th-century Paris, proved too demanding for the hardware of the time, leading the developers to later cap the frame rate at 30 FPS in an attempt to stabilize the experience. For Xbox Series X/S players, a 60 FPS experience was already possible thanks to Microsoft's FPS Boost feature. This system-level technology enhances backward-compatible games, using the new consoles' power to increase frame rates without requiring a specific patch from the developer. The new official patch, however, provides native support for the higher frame rate. The March 5, 2026, update from Ubisoft officially removes the long-standing 30 FPS cap for PlayStation 5 users, finally bringing parity to both current-gen consoles. While not officially advertised by Ubisoft, players have also reported that the patch appears to introduce 4K resolution support on the PS5, a significant visual upgrade from its original 900p.
