Two people were killed and a third person was critically wounded in an East Oakland shooting Saturday night near Foothill Boulevard and 64th Avenue. (ktvu.com) Oakland police said officers were sent to the 6400 block of Foothill Boulevard just before 8:15 p.m. on April 18 after multiple ShotSpotter alerts. They found two men with gunshot wounds there, and both were taken to a hospital, where one later died. (abc7news.com) Police said a third victim, a woman, was found shot in the 2800 block of 64th Avenue and was pronounced dead at the scene. On April 20, authorities identified the two people who died as Derrick Hubbard, 31, and Isaanae Morton, 24. (ktvu.com) The shooting happened in the Frick neighborhood, a part of East Oakland that has remained central to the city’s violence debate even as police report fewer killings citywide this year. Oakland police said reported Part I crimes fell 29% from Jan. 1 through March 31 compared with the same period in 2025. (cbsnews.com) Police also said homicides were down 39% in the first quarter of 2026, a drop that residents interviewed by KQED said has not always changed how safe they feel in daily life. KQED reported this month that many Oakland residents still described fear around car break-ins, robberies and gun violence despite the lower numbers. (ktvu.com) (kqed.org) The Oakland Police Department said the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with photos, video or other information to contact its Homicide Section or tip line. As of this week, the department had not announced any arrests in the case. (abc7news.com)
