Meta builds an AI Zuckerberg and Muse Spark
Meta is training an AI version of Mark Zuckerberg to interact with staff, modelling his communication style and strategic thinking for internal use. The company is also rolling out a new model called Muse Spark with plans to weave models across its apps and glasses. (qz.com) (mezha.net)
Meta is testing an artificial intelligence version of Mark Zuckerberg that employees could use to ask questions inside the company. (ft.com) (qz.com) The Financial Times reported on April 12 that the system is a photorealistic “character” trained on Zuckerberg’s mannerisms, tone, and recent thinking on company strategy. Quartz reported the project is still at an early stage. (ft.com) (qz.com) Meta has not publicly announced the Zuckerberg character, but it did unveil a new model called Muse Spark on April 8 through Meta Superintelligence Labs, the artificial intelligence unit led by Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang. CNBC reported Muse Spark is Meta’s first major model since the company’s June 2025 deal to buy a 49 percent stake in Scale AI for $14.3 billion and bring in Wang. (about.fb.com) (cnbc.com) (techcrunch.com) A large language model is software that predicts the next word well enough to answer questions, summarize documents, and carry on a conversation. Meta said Muse Spark is built for its own products first, rather than as a broadly open model in the style of earlier Llama releases. (about.fb.com) (axios.com) Meta said Muse Spark already powers the Meta AI app and website, and will roll out to WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and the company’s artificial intelligence glasses in the coming weeks. Meta also said it will offer the model in private preview through an application programming interface to selected partners. (about.fb.com) The company is pitching Muse Spark as faster and better suited to recommendations and shared content inside Meta’s apps. On a separate product page, Meta says the model accepts text, images, and voice and has a 262,144-token context window, which is the amount of material it can keep in view at once. (about.fb.com) (trymusespark.com) That puts the reported Zuckerberg character in a larger shift at Meta: building one family of models for consumer apps and another layer of artificial intelligence agents for work inside the company. The Financial Times said Zuckerberg’s internal avatar is part of his push toward what he calls “personal superintelligence.” (ft.com) (about.fb.com) Meta is also trying to show that its reset is moving quickly after criticism of its earlier artificial intelligence lineup. TechCrunch reported Muse Spark is the first model from a “ground-up overhaul” after Meta reorganized its artificial intelligence work, and Axios reported the model was code-named Avocado and built over nine months. (techcrunch.com) (axios.com) The unresolved question is whether Meta employees will treat an artificial intelligence Zuckerberg as a useful shortcut or as a stand-in for decisions that still need a human boss. For now, Meta has confirmed the new model platform, while the Zuckerberg replica remains a reported internal experiment. (ft.com) (about.fb.com)
