Lockheed Martin Wins $1.9B Simulator Contract
Lockheed Martin secured a $1.9 billion contract to upgrade and maintain C-130J Super Hercules simulators at military bases worldwide. This deal highlights the growing importance of digital twins, high-fidelity simulation, and virtual validation of aerodynamics and propulsion—all increasingly valued skillsets for engineers.
The contract, awarded by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, extends Lockheed Martin's support for the C-130J Super Hercules training program through 2037. Work will be performed at various locations, including Marietta, Georgia, where Lockheed Martin's Aeronautics division is headquartered. This division is responsible for the design, development, and production of the C-130J. The upgrades will focus on enhancing the realism and effectiveness of the simulators, incorporating advanced threat replication and improved data analytics capabilities. These enhancements aim to provide pilots with more comprehensive training scenarios, preparing them for a wider range of operational environments. The contract also includes provisions for maintenance and support services to ensure the simulators remain operational and up-to-date. Lockheed Martin will collaborate with several subcontractors to deliver the upgrades, leveraging specialized expertise in areas such as visual systems, motion platforms, and software development. The company previously secured a $145 million contract in 2022 for C-130J maintenance, reflecting the ongoing demand for sustainment and modernization of the aircraft. The C-130J Super Hercules is used by air forces worldwide, including the U.S. Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, for tactical airlift, airdrop, and special operations missions.
