Allar linked to Steelers

Insiders are connecting Penn State QB Drew Allar to the Pittsburgh Steelers as the team searches for clarity at quarterback while Aaron Rodgers’ future remains unresolved. (Roundtable reported the link and national draft pieces continue to list Allar among the quarterbacks drawing attention for arm talent and athleticism.) (roundtable.io) (usatoday.com)

Drew Allar’s name is now firmly in Pittsburgh’s quarterback conversation as the Steelers keep searching for a long-term answer before the 2026 draft. (steelers.com) (triblive.com) The link is no longer just draft chatter: TribLive reported the Steelers hosted Allar for an official pre-draft visit on Wednesday at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. Roundtable and other draft outlets have also tied Pittsburgh to the Penn State quarterback in recent weeks. (triblive.com) (roundtable.io) Steelers general manager Omar Khan said at the National Football League scouting combine on February 24 that “the door is open” for Aaron Rodgers to return in 2026, but he also said the team is still looking for “the next franchise player” at quarterback. Khan said the club wants “the right quarterback” for the AFC North. (steelers.com) That search has stretched across multiple offseasons. Khan said on March 31, 2025 that Pittsburgh had to “find the long-term solution” after cycling through Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Kyle Allen, Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson since Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement. (steelers.com) The current roster still reflects that uncertainty. As of this week, the Steelers’ official roster lists Mason Rudolph and Will Howard at quarterback, and the team’s own draft coverage says the 2026 NFL Draft will be held in Pittsburgh from April 23-25. (steelers.com 1) (steelers.com 2) Allar brings the size and production teams usually start with in these evaluations. Penn State lists him at 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds, and the school says he finished his career ranked first in program history in completion percentage at 63.2 and interception percentage at 1.3. (gopsusports.com) Penn State also credits Allar with 61 career touchdown passes, 7,402 passing yards and 732 rushing yards, numbers that place him among the school’s leaders in every major passing category. The school says he is the only Football Bowl Subdivision quarterback since 1956 with more than 900 career pass attempts, at least 50 touchdown passes and no more than 12 interceptions. (gopsusports.com) National draft boards still see him as a live prospect, even if not a consensus top quarterback. USA Today’s April 16 rankings listed him among the best available 2026 quarterback prospects, and a separate USA Today draft package on April 17 again included him in the early quarterback mix. (usatoday.com 1) (usatoday.com 2) Pittsburgh has not said it will draft Allar, and Rodgers’ status for 2026 is still unresolved. But with a formal visit complete, a home-city draft days away and the Steelers still talking openly about a 10-to-15-year quarterback, the connection is no longer hard to trace.
